Currency

The unit of Korean currency is the Won (£Ü). Coin denominations are £Ü10, £Ü50, £Ü100 and £Ü500.
Banknotes are £Ü1,000, £Ü5,000 and £Ü10,000. The exchange rate is approximately US$1 to £Ü1,334 as of January 2010.
Currency exchange:
Foreign banknotes and traveler's check can be exchanged at foreign exchange banks and other authorized money changers.
Credit cards:
Diners Club, Visa, American Express and MasterCard are widely accepted at major hotels, shops and restaurants in the larger cities. Check with your credit card company for details of merchant acceptability and other services which may be available.
Traveler's check:
Accepted, but may be difficult to change in smaller towns. To avoid additional exchange rate charges, travelers are advised to take Traveler's check in US Dollars.

Weather

Korea's climate is regarded as a continental climate from a temperate standpoint and a monsoonal climate from a precipitation standpoint. Local food
Participants can enjoy many local foods in Jeju such as Galchiguk (Hairtail fish soup), Kkwong-toryeom (Sliced pheasant meat boiled lightly with vegetables) and Kkwong-memil guksu (Buckwheat noodles with pheasant meat), Jarihoe (raw damselfish) and Jarimulhoe (raw damselfish in chilled -broth), Okdom-gui (Broiled sea bream), Saengseonhoe (Raw fish), Seonggeguk (Sea urchin soup), Jeonbokjuk (Rice porridge with abalone), Momguk (Gulfweed soup), Bingddeok (Bing rice cake), Haemul-ttukbaegi (Seafood hot pot), Obunjagi Kettle Rice, Black Pig Bulgogi Dish, Samgyetang (Chicken broth with spices and ginseng)and Hanchimulhoe(sliced raw fish).



Business hours

Government office hours are usually from 9:00am to 6:00pm on weekdays and closed on weekends.
Banks are open from 9:30am to 4:30pm on weekdays and closed on Saturday and Sunday. Major stores including department stores are open everyday from 10:30am to 8:00pm including Sunday.



Electricity

In Korea, 220 volt outlets are most common. Some hotels provide 110 volt outlets for shavers. Please check the power supply before using.



Internet

Internet service is offered in public places such as airports, train stations, and bus terminals in Korea. PC rooms and internet cafes are also great places to get internet service and easy to find throughout the country.

Tax

Upon request, only foreign tourists can receive nearly 10 percent VAT refunds for purchases at Duty Free shopping outlets. Goods must be taken out of Korea within three months of purchase to be eligible for a tax refund. Visitors can receive a refund on a receipt for a minimum purchase. To receive this refund, present refund receipts with the purchased goods at the customs desk at the Incheon International Airport.
